HISTORY

Vral is the child of a Viera mother and a Lupin father, both unwilling Garlean conscripts. Wanting better for him than to grow up under the Garlean regime, Vral was left at the Gridanian border when he was still only a baby. He grew up in an orphanage there and because he never really fit in due to being so obviously different, he made his escape and snuck aboard a merchant's cart headed for Limsa Lominsa during his early teens. He lived on the Lominsan streets for a little while until he was taken in and mentored by a Rogue Miqo'te. Under her tutelage, he learned how to become a Rogue and uphold the honor-among-thieves code himself. However, his tutor would discover that he wasn't very fit for all the knifework involved, being quite the sensitive and softhearted creature. No matter how much Vral tried to hide it, she saw right through the facade. Having noticed how deftly he could take apart and reassemble a pistol along with his fascination for anything mechanical in nature, she would eventually recommend he go and study machinistry at the Machinist's Guild. It took some convincing when Vral was loath to leave the one person who took him in and accepted him exactly as he was, but he would end up caving and thus he was set on the path of becoming a Machinist. It's there he started thriving, uncovering his passion and finding purpose in creating.

No longer so worried about surviving or fitting in, he would eventually find the time to try and figure out his origins — something he'd always been curious about. After a fair bit of tracking down information and chasing leads, Vral discovered that he had been left at the Gridanian border by a one-armed Lupin. The discovery would become a turning point in his Machinist career as he started specializing in creating prosthetics in the hopes of one day coming across the Lupin he suspects is his father. Although he's still searching for his parents and the knowledge of what might have happened to them, Vral has come a long way. He has a much better sense of self than he ever did, finding fulfillment in his work helping others through mechanical means, whether it be replacing lost limbs or creating a robot companion.

PERSONALITY

At first glance Vral might come across as intimidating and distant. In truth, that's only because he's stupidly tall, making him loom over others, and rather reserved. It doesn't help that Vral tends to act tired and put-upon, in part because he is always tired from overworking himself. But any perceived aloofness is simply due to him being socially awkward, never sure how to interact with new people. Depending on the person, it can take a while for Vral to warm up to and trust them. Once someone has gotten past his shell, he's a staunch and loyal friend to have though. He's actually very easy to bully/tease and is far more likely to leap to someone else's defense rather than himself, being quite conflict-avoidant unless someone needs protecting, and so he often finds himself affectionately bullied by the retainers in his employ and even his animal companions. He's easily swayed and dragged into shenanigans by loved ones because of this.

He's different when it comes to his work. It's the one thing he takes great pride in and he'll talk more confidently about the subjects he's passionate about, likely revealing himself as the giant machinistry nerd he truly is. Anyone coming to him in need of expertise will have a very attentive professional on their hands. As a prosthetist, he cares deeply about making just the right prosthetic for the client, not only in terms of functionality, but he also finds it important to cater to a client's tastes and aesthetics. Whether someone wants their prosthetic limb to be a statement piece, a weapon, or indistinguishable from the real thing, Vral will take painstaking care to make it happen. As professional as he is, his bleeding heart tends to make him undercharge for his work and so in this he's also easy to take advantage of.

PROSTHETICS

Need a prosthetic or repairs / a tune-up to one? Vral's your guy. He has a personal workshop in Ishgard that is open for walk-ins and anyone in need of his specialization is welcome at any time. He's usually working well into the night on projects (personal or otherwise) and sleeps right above his workshop.

ROBOTS

Same as the above, but for robots. That aside, if your character is a robot or has a robot companion of some sort, Vral will want to know all about them and is much more likely to shove his social awkwardness aside and want to approach them. He would love to inspect and nerd out about them if allowed.

OUTCASTS

Vral has a huge soft spot for others just like him who might be considered outcasts for reasons they cannot help. Although still awkward, he'll make the extra effort to reach out to them and try to offer some solidarity.

RETAINERS

Vral has twin retainers in his employ, Lo (Loija) and La (Laija), who help him run his workshop as well as lovingly bully him into doing things like semi-properly eating and sleeping. They're often out and about promoting the workshop and gathering materials for him. Possibly your character heard about the workshop through them or got roped into helping gather materials to deliver to Vral. Also notorious gossipers and a good source of information.

PARENTAL SEARCH

Vral continues to look for his parents and the only information he has to go on is that he was dropped off at the Gridanian border by a one-armed lupin, likely a Garlean conscript and assumed to be his father. For this reason he's very much interested in talking to other (former) Garlean conscripts and anyone with ties to them in hopes of finding out more information.

TROUBLESOME FERRET

Vral has a pet ferret aptly named Magpie that likes to cause trouble. It's trained to fetch small parts and tools for him, but there's a 50/50 chance it will fetch and bring them or fetch and run off with them. Vral is often found chasing after it. As the name suggests, it likes stealing shiny things and will also try to steal from random people. (Vral's very sorry in advance.)

COFFEE ADDICT

Vral practically runs on coffee and it's one of the few things he'll leave his workshop for regularly. He can be found in cafes and is always looking to try out new coffees so it's a good place to meet him outside of his work.
